Silver Vinyl 2LP from the 2023 Abbey Road Half-Speed Series

This is the silver vinyl edition of Morningrise from Candlelight's 2023 reissue series, catalog number CANDLE332745, with the color named on the front sticker. Its two silver discs carry the remaster Jens Bogren made under Mikael Åkerfeldt's guidance, and Miles Showell did the half-speed cut at Abbey Road. Candlelight lists the vinyl as 140-gram and credits Dan Capp with restoring the artwork for the gatefold jacket, which is wrapped in an obi strip.

Each of the album's five songs runs longer than ten minutes, so the record needs four sides for five tracks. "Black Rose Immortal", at a little over 20 minutes the longest song Opeth have recorded, occupies side C alone, and "Advent" opens the set the same way on side A.

Opeth made Morningrise at Unisound in Finspång during March and April 1996, producing and mixing it with Dan Swanö, who also engineered. It was the last Opeth album Swanö worked on and the last with drummer Anders Nordin and bassist Johan De Farfalla. Because the first album's release had been delayed, most of the material was already written by the time Orchid came out, some of it dating back to 1991.

Åkerfeldt has called the sessions "quite boring" because of the endless drum takes and click track. He and Nordin used the downtime to write a guitar and piano duet meant as the album's instrumental, but there was not enough time to finish it. Candlelight released the album in Europe in June 1996, with the US release following on Century Black a year later.
