20th Anniversary Edition on White & Black Smokey Light Transparent Vinyl

Music For Nations issued this 20th anniversary edition of Blackwater Park in July 2021, pressed on two LPs of white and black smokey light transparent vinyl. This is the US release, catalog number 19439876371, distributed by Sony Music. The gatefold jacket carries updated liner notes and acknowledgements, and each disc sits in a printed inner sleeve. Side D ends with a live recording of "The Leper Affinity", the bonus track added for the anniversary. That live version first appeared on the 2010 Legacy Edition of the album.

In the anniversary announcement Mikael Åkerfeldt called the album "the stepping stone into professionalism for us" and said that working with Steven Wilson "set off a lifelong friendship."

Blackwater Park was the fifth Opeth studio album and the first produced by Wilson, then the frontman of Porcupine Tree. The band entered Studio Fredman in Gothenburg on August 10, 2000, with no lyrics written and only three rehearsals behind them, and Fredrik Nordström engineered the sessions. Wilson sang clean and backing vocals on "Bleak", "Harvest", "The Drapery Falls" and "The Funeral Portrait" and added piano and guitar. The lineup was Åkerfeldt on vocals and guitar, Peter Lindgren on guitar, Martín Méndez on bass and Martin Lopez on drums. Göran Finnberg mastered the record, Travis Smith designed the artwork, and the title was taken from the German progressive rock band Blackwater Park.

The album first came out in March 2001 on Music For Nations, the first Opeth record released in North America at the same time as the rest of the world. It did not chart in the US or the UK, and by May 2008 it had sold more than 93,000 copies in the US. Loudwire named it the top progressive metal album of all time in 2020, and Rolling Stone placed it 55th on its list of the 100 greatest metal albums.
