20th Anniversary Edition on 180 Gram Black Vinyl

Music For Nations marked twenty years of Damnation with this reissue in December 2023. This edition is a single 180 gram black LP of Steven Wilson's 2015 remix and remaster, which had previously been pressed on a double LP paired with Deliverance. The first three songs sit on side A and the other five on side B. The lacquers were cut at Alchemy Mastering at AIR, and the discs were pressed at Pallas in Germany.

Announcing the reissue, Mikael Åkerfeldt called it the Opeth album "most suitable for the vinyl format due to the fact that it is not really cluttered with stuff," and described "a pretty airy recording with 5 musicians and done on 2 inch tapes." The band also released the original "Windowpane" video, digitized from the Music For Nations tape sent to MTV in 2003.

Damnation came out of the same 2002 sessions in Gothenburg, at Nacksving Studio and Studio Fredman, that produced Deliverance; Åkerfeldt recorded most of its vocals afterward at Wilson's No Man's Land studio in England. Wilson produced the album with Åkerfeldt, mixed and mastered it, played Mellotron, piano and Fender Rhodes, sang backing vocals and wrote the lyrics to "Death Whispered a Lullaby." Åkerfeldt, Peter Lindgren, Martín Méndez and Martin Lopez made up the band. It was the first Opeth album with no growled vocals, and both records are dedicated to Åkerfeldt's grandmother, who died while they were being made. Koch released it in the US on April 22, 2003, and it reached No. 192 on the Billboard 200 and No. 10 on Heatseekers. In 2014 Prog magazine ranked it No. 91 among the 100 greatest prog albums.
