25th Anniversary Edition on Crystal Clear Vinyl

Music For Nations reissues Deliverance for its 25th anniversary as a double LP pressed on crystal clear vinyl, catalog number 19958445151. This is the UK release of the anniversary edition. The title track and "A Fair Judgement" share side B and together run just under 24 minutes, and side C pairs the instrumental "For Absent Friends" with "Master's Apprentices."

Deliverance was the sixth Opeth studio album and the follow-up to Blackwater Park. The band wanted to issue it alongside Damnation as a double album, but the record company put the two out separately so that each could be promoted on its own. Work started at Nacksving Studio, where equipment broke down and drum microphones shifted position or went missing, and the band finished the record at Studio Fredman once Steven Wilson joined them. Fredrik Nordström and Fredrik Reinedahl also engineered. Mikael Åkerfeldt's grandmother died during the recording, and he dedicated both albums to her.

"Master's Apprentices" is named after the Australian rock band The Masters Apprentices, and "For Absent Friends" takes its title from a song on Genesis' Nursery Cryme. The last note of "By The Pain I See In Others" fades out at 10:40. After a stretch of silence, two verses from "Master's Apprentices" play backward at 12:00 and 13:15.

Deliverance was the first Opeth release to chart, reaching No. 16 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers and No. 19 on Top Independent Albums. Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and Terrorizer each named it among the best albums of 2002, and in 2012 Loudwire ranked it third among that year's albums.
