The Pink Floyd Records reissue, catalog number PFRLP9, issued in the United States on October 14, 2016. A single 180-gram LP remastered from the original analogue tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman, with Grundman cutting the lacquers. It ships with a printed inner sleeve and a postcard, and the jacket arrives sealed in black shrink-wrap carrying George Hardie's mechanical-handshake sticker, as the 1975 original did.

Pink Floyd recorded the album at EMI Studios in London between January 13 and July 28, 1975, and produced it themselves. Brian Humphries engineered, with John Leckie on the opening piece and Peter James assisting.

Roy Harper sings lead on "Have a Cigar." Dick Parry plays saxophone, and Venetta Fields and Carlena Williams sing backing vocals. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is written for Syd Barrett, who had left the band seven years earlier, and Roger Waters split it in two to open and close the record.

It entered the UK chart at number three and went to number one the following week, and reached number one on the Billboard 200 in its second week in the United States. The RIAA certifies it seven times platinum. Hipgnosis designed and photographed the sleeve, from a concept by Storm Thorgerson, with graphics by George Hardie.
