180 Gram 2LP Gatefold Reissue

Pink Floyd Records issued this double LP in 2016 under catalog number PFRLP14: two 180-gram black discs in a gatefold jacket, each in a printed inner sleeve, remastered by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman. The original 1994 vinyl was a single LP of edited versions, and the full-length album first reached vinyl on the 2014 double-LP reissue. This pressing keeps the complete running order across four sides.

The Division Bell is Pink Floyd's fourteenth studio album, recorded through 1993 at Britannia Row, on David Gilmour's houseboat studio Astoria, and at Olympic, Abbey Road, Metropolis and The Creek. Bob Ezrin co-produced with Gilmour, Andy Jackson engineered, and Michael Kamen arranged the strings. Gilmour and Richard Wright wrote most of the music, and Polly Samson co-wrote most of the lyrics, which deal with themes of communication.

Wright sings lead on "Wearing the Inside Out," his first lead vocal on a Pink Floyd album since The Dark Side of the Moon. The voice on "Keep Talking" is Stephen Hawking's, taken from a BT television advertisement. The writer Douglas Adams suggested the title in return for a donation to his chosen charity, the Environmental Investigation Agency.

Storm Thorgerson designed the sleeve: two metal heads, each the height of a double-decker bus, photographed in profile in a field near Stuntney in Cambridgeshire with Ely Cathedral on the horizon.

The album was released in the UK on March 28, 1994, and reached number one there and in the US, where it held the top position for four weeks. "Marooned" won the Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, and its official video is above.
