180 Gram Remastered Reissue

This is the Pink Floyd Records pressing of Animals on a single 180-gram black LP, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve that carries the original Battersea Power Station cover. Its audio is the 2016 remaster made from the original analog tapes and credited to James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman. Side one holds "Pigs on the Wing 1" and the seventeen-minute "Dogs"; side two runs from "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" through "Sheep" to "Pigs on the Wing 2."

Animals was the band's tenth studio album and the first they made at Britannia Row, their own studio in London, where they recorded it between April and December 1976 with engineer Brian Humphries. Roger Waters built the concept loosely on George Orwell's Animal Farm, turning the fable toward capitalism rather than Stalinism.

Waters conceived the cover and Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis designed it. For the photograph, a 12-meter inflatable pig was raised between the power station's chimneys on December 2, 1976. It broke free of its moorings, flew over Heathrow, where flights were canceled, and came down in Kent, where a farmer recovered it.

The band played the album to the press at Battersea Power Station on January 19, 1977. It was released in the UK two days later and in the US on February 12, reaching number two on the UK chart and number three on the Billboard 200. The RIAA certifies it four times platinum.
