Pink Floyd - The Wall (CD)

2CD Remaster in a Three-Panel Card Sleeve

This set puts the album on two compact discs in a three-panel card sleeve, issued by Pink Floyd Records in January 2016 under catalog number PFR11. Mastering is credited to James Guthrie and Joel Plante at das boot recording. Guthrie had remastered the album in 2011 for the Discovery edition of the "Why Pink Floyd...?" reissue campaign.

The first disc closes on "Goodbye Cruel World" and the second opens with "Hey You." That running order was settled late: technical constraints moved "Hey You" from the end of side three to its start and replaced "What Shall We Do Now?" with the similar but shorter "Empty Spaces." With the November 1979 deadline close, the inner sleeves were left as they were.

The album first appeared in 1979, on Harvest in the UK and Columbia in the United States. Roger Waters wrote most of it; David Gilmour shares the credits on "Young Lust," "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell," and Bob Ezrin co-wrote "The Trial." Michael Kamen oversaw the orchestral arrangements, played by members of the New York Philharmonic and New York Symphony orchestras and recorded at CBS Studios in New York. Jeff Porcaro plays drums on "Mother," Lee Ritenour adds guitar to "One of My Turns" and "Comfortably Numb," and Bruce Johnston and Toni Tennille sing backing vocals. "Vera" takes its name from the wartime singer Vera Lynn.

The record went on to the stage and the screen. The tour that followed played only Los Angeles, New York, London and Dortmund, with a wall of 340 cardboard bricks built between the band and the audience during each show and Gerald Scarfe's animation projected onto it. Alan Parker directed the 1982 film adaptation, written by Waters, with Bob Geldof as Pink.
