25th Anniversary Vinyl Voice Edition on Ash Grey Vinyl

This Vinyl Voice Edition of Deliverance marks the album's 25th anniversary, and only 500 copies are going to record stores. It is pressed on ash grey vinyl, and the front of the jacket carries a "25th Anniversary" line beside the title. The six songs are spread over two LPs. "Wreath" takes up side A by itself, and "By The Pain I See In Others" fills side D. Street date is November 27, 2026.

Opeth made Deliverance in Gothenburg between July and September 2002. Sessions began at Nacksving Studio and moved to Studio Fredman. Mikael Åkerfeldt produced the record with Steven Wilson, who also sang backing vocals and played Mellotron, piano and additional guitar. The band had no songs written going in. Åkerfeldt wrote at night, and they recorded what he had the next day. Peter Lindgren played guitar, Martín Méndez bass and Martin Lopez drums. Andy Sneap mixed it, and the cover is by Travis Smith.

Those same sessions also gave Opeth Damnation, the softer progressive rock record that followed in May 2003. Deliverance came first, on November 12, 2002. It runs just under 62 minutes, and five of its six tracks are longer than ten minutes. The short one is "For Absent Friends," a two-minute instrumental. The album earned the band a Swedish Grammis for Best Hard Rock Performance. In 2023 Rolling Stone put the title track, heard in the video above, at No. 52 on its list of the 100 greatest heavy metal songs.
