Black Vinyl LP

This is the single black LP of Post from One Little Independent Records, catalog number TPLP51, the vinyl edition sold through Björk's own store. All eleven songs fit on one disc, six on side A and five on side B. The label has repressed the LP several times under this catalog number and barcode. Stéphane Sednaoui photographed the cover in Piccadilly Circus, with Björk wearing an airmail-style jacket that Hussein Chalayan made from Tyvek, and the lotus on the record label was modelled in CGI by Martin Gardiner. Me Company designed the sleeve.

Post is Björk's second studio album, released in June 1995 by One Little Indian in the UK and Elektra in the US. Work started late in 1994 at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, in the Bahamas, and was finished in London by April 1995. Instead of a single producer, Björk shared the board track by track: Nellee Hooper, who had produced Debut, Graham Massey of 808 State, Tricky and Howie B. She produced "You've Been Flirting Again" and "Cover Me" alone.

"Army of Me" and "The Modern Things" go back to songs Björk wrote with Massey in Manchester before Debut. The Icelandic poet Sjón co-wrote the lyrics of "Isobel", and Eumir Deodato's string arrangements run through "Hyperballad", "You've Been Flirting Again" and "Isobel". "It's Oh So Quiet" is a big-band cover of a song by Hans Lang and Bert Reisfeld that Betty Hutton made famous in English. Tricky co-wrote and co-produced "Enjoy" and "Headphones", Einar Örn Benediktsson plays trumpet on "Enjoy", and Talvin Singh adds percussion to Howie B's "I Miss You".

Post reached number two in the UK, number one in Iceland and number 32 on the US Billboard 200, and was certified platinum in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia. Six singles came from it: "Army of Me", "Isobel", "It's Oh So Quiet", "Hyperballad", "Possibly Maybe" and "I Miss You". The video above is "Army of Me", directed by Michel Gondry. In 1996 Björk won the Brit Award for Best International Female Solo Artist.
