45 RPM 2LP On 12-Inch Vinyl In Gatefold Jacket

This is XL Recordings' 2016 reissue of Amnesiac, catalog number XLLP783B, cut to play at 45 RPM across two 12-inch LPs. It comes in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves and a download card. Spreading eleven songs over four sides leaves two or three tracks per side. Discogs contributors note that on this pressing the grooves of sides one and three run closer to the center label than on some later XL 12-inch pressings.

Amnesiac came out of the same sessions as Kid A, recorded between January 1999 and April 2000 at Guillaume Tell in Paris, Medley in Copenhagen and Radiohead's newly built studio in Oxfordshire, with Nigel Godrich producing alongside the band. It was released on May 30, 2001 in Japan, on June 4 in the UK through Parlophone and on June 5 in the US through Capitol. The Orchestra of St John's, conducted by John Lubbock, played the strings on "Pyramid Song" and "Dollars & Cents" at Dorchester Abbey, and the Humphrey Lyttelton Band joined the band for a seven-hour session on "Life In A Glasshouse."

Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, credited as Tchocky, built the artwork around a weeping minotaur, and the special edition, packaged as a mislaid library book, won the Grammy for Best Recording Package. "Pyramid Song," the video above, was the first single, released on May 16, 2001, followed by "Knives Out" later that summer, with "I Might Be Wrong" issued as a promotional single. The album entered the UK chart at No. 1 and the Billboard 200 at No. 2 on 231,000 copies, and was nominated for the Mercury Prize and the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
