Half-Speed Master on 180g Black Vinyl in a Gatefold Sleeve

This Black And Blue was remastered and cut at half speed at Abbey Road Studios, then pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and packed in a gatefold sleeve. Miles Showell made the half-speed cut on Abbey Road's modified Neumann VMS-80 lathe. The catalog number is COC 59106.

The half-speed cut first appeared in 2018 inside The Studio Albums Vinyl Collection 1971-2016 box. On June 26, 2020 it came out as a single LP, one of ten Stones albums given standalone half-speed releases that day. The original 1976 LP had been mastered by Lee Hulko at Sterling Sound.

Work on the album started at Musicland Studios in Munich in December 1974. "Melody" was the only album track recorded on the Rolling Stones Mobile in Rotterdam, and it carries the first audible count-off on a Stones record, with Billy Preston's vocal turning into a call and response with Jagger. Two other songs from those sessions, "Slave" and "Worried About You," stayed unreleased until Tattoo You in 1981.

Jimmy Page borrowed some of the band's studio time in Munich to finish his overdubs for Led Zeppelin's Presence. Hiro photographed the band for the cover on Sanibel Island, Florida, in February 1976, and the record came out that April 23. It went to number one in the Netherlands and number two in Canada and Norway.
