Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies (Black Vinyl)

140 Gram Black Vinyl, 30th Anniversary Edition

This is the standard black vinyl edition from the 30th-anniversary reissue of Jar of Flies, released by Columbia and Legacy on March 22, 2024: a single 12-inch, 140-gram LP with four songs on side A and three on side B. The reissue was also pressed on tri-colored vinyl and on clear vinyl with embedded flies, and issued on cassette and as a deluxe box set.

Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney and Mike Inez made the EP in seven days at London Bridge Studio in Seattle in September 1993, producing it themselves with engineer Toby Wright after the long tour for Dirt. Kinney told Guitar World: "After playing loud music for a year, we'd come home and the last thing we wanted to do was crank up the amps right away."

Columbia released Jar of Flies on January 25, 1994, and it became the first EP to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "No Excuses," above, gave the band its first No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, and "I Stay Away" was nominated for the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The RIAA has certified the EP four times platinum.

The title comes from a science experiment Cantrell carried out in the third grade, raising flies in two jars.
