Black Vinyl LP, Original US Configuration

Craft Recordings' 2026 reissue returns Whitesnake to vinyl in its original US single-LP form: nine songs, four on side A and five on side B. This is the standard black-vinyl edition. Craft pressed the same album in Tan Smoke for Walmart, Stone Marble for Revolver and Gold Black Ice for its own store, and reissued Slide It In and Slip of the Tongue on the same day.

Geffen released the album in the US in 1987. In the UK it came out on EMI as 1987, the name it is still often known by, with eleven tracks in a different running order that opened with "Still of the Night." The US sequence on this record opens with "Crying in the Rain" and closes with "Don't Turn Away."

The studio lineup was David Coverdale on vocals, John Sykes on guitar, Neil Murray on bass and Aynsley Dunbar on drums. Mike Stone and Keith Olsen produced it across sessions that ran from September 1985 to November 1986, at studios including Little Mountain in Vancouver, Compass Point in Nassau and Cherokee in Hollywood.

The album reached number two on the Billboard 200, where it held that position for ten non-consecutive weeks, and number eight in the UK. The RIAA certifies it eight times platinum. "Here I Go Again," a reworking of a song Whitesnake first released in 1982, went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Is This Love" reached number two. The video above is "Still of the Night," the album's first single.
