Standard Black Vinyl Single LP

This is the standard black-vinyl pressing of Craft Recordings' 2026 reissue of Slip of the Tongue, catalog number CR01044. It restores the album's original US single-LP layout: ten songs, five on each side, running from the title track to "Sailing Ships." A Crimson Moon edition is sold only at CraftRecordings.com, and Slide It In and Whitesnake returned to vinyl from Craft on the same street date.

David Coverdale wrote the songs with guitarist Adrian Vandenberg, who arranged the material but could not play on the sessions after a wrist injury that needed surgery. Steve Vai recorded the guitar parts in his place. Mike Clink and Keith Olsen produced and engineered the record at Record Plant, with Clink cutting the basic tracks and Olsen handling overdubs, vocals and keyboards.

The back cover lists Coverdale on vocals, Vai and Vandenberg on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums. Don Airey, David Rosenthal and Claude Gaudette played the keyboard parts, and Glenn Hughes sang backing vocals on three songs.

Geffen released the album in North America in November 1989. It reached number 10 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK albums chart, earned platinum certification in the US, and became the only Whitesnake album to top the chart in Finland.

"Fool for Your Loving" is a new recording of a song Whitesnake first released in 1980 on Ready an' Willing, written by Coverdale, Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody. The 1989 version went to number two on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart and number 37 on the Hot 100; Coverdale has said he regretted letting Geffen release it as the lead single ahead of "Judgment Day." "The Deeper the Love" followed, reaching number four on Mainstream Rock and number 28 on the Hot 100, and "Now You're Gone" was issued later in 1990.
