BMG's reissue of Possessed, catalog number 964255181, is pressed on red, white and black vinyl in the finish the label calls Insomnia. It comes with a printed inner sleeve and a poster, and the thirteen songs run six on side one and seven on side two, as they did in 1985.

Possessed is Venom's fourth studio album. Neat Records first issued it in April 1985, and it reached number 99 on the UK Albums Chart. The band produced it with Keith Nichol, recording early that year at The Manor Mobile studio in Sussex, the first Venom album made anywhere other than Impulse Studios.

It was the last Venom studio album with guitarist Jeffrey "Mantas" Dunn before his first departure from the band in 1986. The title track sits at number 14 on the Parents Music Resource Center's "Filthy Fifteen," the organization's list of the songs it found most objectionable.
