This is Parlophone's 2026 UK reissue of The Sundays' debut album, a single LP pressed on 140-gram black vinyl and housed in a standard single sleeve. It carries the original ten songs with no bonus material, and it was issued alongside matching black vinyl and CD editions of the band's two later albums, Blind and Static & Silence.

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic first came out on Rough Trade in January 1990. Rough Trade's distribution troubles pushed the band to a new label after the debut, and Parlophone released both of the records that followed: Blind in 1992 and Static & Silence in 1997.

Singer Harriet Wheeler and guitarist David Gavurin met at Bristol University and wrote every song on the album together; Paul Brindley played bass and Patrick Hannan drums. The record was co-produced with Ray Shulman, formerly of Gentle Giant, and engineered by Alan Moulder. Wheeler has said, "There was never a time I wanted to be incredibly famous or in a pop group."

The album reached No. 4 on the UK albums chart and No. 39 on the Billboard 200. "Here's Where The Story Ends" went to No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart, and the earlier single "Can't Be Sure" topped John Peel's Festive Fifty.
