The Itals - Rasta Philosophy (1985)

Nighthawk Records of St. Louis released Rasta Philosophy in 1985 as NHM-7491, six songs split three to a side. Leroy Pierson and Robert Schoenfeld produced it, and Sylvan Morris recorded and mixed the sessions, with Channel One Recording Studio credited on the release.

The object

Each side of this copy is etched with its catalog number and the same job number: NHM-7491-A W 44614 on side A and NHM-7491-B W 44614 on side B. The Nighthawk jacket photographs the three singers in a yard under breadfruit leaves, wearing the label's own hawk T-shirts, with the group name set in letters of green, gold and red across the top.

Context

Rasta Philosophy and this Nighthawk LP share 1985. The band's line-up here is Keith Porter, Ronnie Davis and Lloyd Ricketts, who also wrote the six songs, backed by players including Earl "Chinna" Smith and Bingy Bunny on guitars, Franklyn "Bubbler" Waul on keyboards, and Headley Bennett on saxophone.
