Limited Clear Vinyl LP

This is a limited clear vinyl pressing of In Spades, the Afghan Whigs' eighth studio album, reissued by Sub Pop as a single LP. Sub Pop's own mockup for this color LP shows a clear disc paired with the album's black-and-white cover, in which a horned, robed figure stands over a field of pyramids.

Sub Pop released In Spades on May 5, 2017, the second Whigs record after the band's return to recording with Do To The Beast in 2014, which Sub Pop notes was their first Top 40 album. Greg Dulli wrote every song and produced it, and the label's notes say it was recorded at Rick Nelson's Marigny Sound studio in New Orleans. The lineup was Dulli, guitarists Dave Rosser and Jon Skibic, drummer Patrick Keeler, multi-instrumentalist Rick Nelson and co-founding bassist John Curley. "This is the first time since Black Love that we've done a full-blown band album," Dulli said at the time, referring to the band's 1996 album.

Sub Pop's notes open on a line from "Oriole": "Divination/Cleromancy/Comes the card that I refused to see," cleromancy being the casting of lots to divine what comes next. The album reached No. 108 on the Billboard 200, No. 55 in the UK and No. 10 in Flanders, and holds a Metacritic score of 79. Pitchfork rated it 7.6 and placed it at No. 14 on its list of the 20 best rock albums of 2017.
