Canary Yellow Vinyl, Elektra 75

This single LP of Gentlemen belongs to the Elektra 75 Vinyl Collection, the run of twenty limited LP reissues and releases Rhino and Warner put out in 2025 for Elektra Records' 75th anniversary. It is pressed on canary yellow vinyl and was issued as a brick-and-mortar retail exclusive on July 4, 2025, the first of the Fridays in July on which the series' titles arrived, in company with records by Television, The Stooges, Public Image Ltd and Third Eye Blind.

A hype sticker on the jacket bills the record as the 1993 alternative classic featuring "Debonair" and "Gentlemen." A paper lyric insert comes with it, and the jacket credits Rhino with manufacturing it under license from Elektra Entertainment Group. The Absolute Sound rated this pressing four out of five for both music and sonics in its December 2025 issue.

Gentlemen was the band's fourth studio album, released by Elektra in 1993 after their run on Sub Pop. Greg Dulli wrote the songs while touring behind 1992's Congregation and produced the album himself, recording mostly at Ardent Studios in Memphis with further sessions at Ultrasuede Studio in Cincinnati. The songs form a cycle that follows a relationship to its end, and Dulli has cited Motown's way of setting sad lyrics against upbeat music as a model. Marcy Mays sings on "My Curse," and the band covers Tyrone Davis' 1970 soul song "I Keep Coming Back."

The album reached number 13 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and number 58 in the UK, and "Debonair" reached number 18 on the Modern Rock chart. Gentlemen appears in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, Spin placed it at number 141 on its list of the 300 best albums from 1985 to 2014, and Bob Gendron wrote a 2008 volume on it for the 33 1/3 book series.
