"Tiny" Edition Black & Purple Splatter Vinyl

Undermind on vinyl for the first time, as a two-LP set on JEMP Records, catalog number JEMP1114. Phish calls this the "Tiny" Edition: 180-gram discs split black and purple, with splatter across the purple half, in a gatefold jacket whose interior carries the lyrics. The first pressing is individually foil-numbered. Side D closes with "Tiny," a track that was not part of the album's original sequence and had previously been issued only as an online bonus.

Chris Bellman cut the lacquers at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The album was originally mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine, in April 2004. The discs were pressed in the Czech Republic.

Undermind is Phish's eleventh studio album, released by Elektra on June 15, 2004, and the band's last album for the label. It reached No. 13 in the US. A month before it came out, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell announced that the band would split after that summer's tour; Phish re-formed in 2009, having founded its own label, JEMP Records, in 2005.

Producer Tchad Blake recorded the album with assistant engineer Peter J. Carini at The Barn in Vermont in February 2004, then mixed it at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, England, in March 2004. Parts of the title track were recorded at The Barn in May 2002 and at the Chicago Theatre in June 2003, Anastasio recorded "Scents and Subtle Sounds (Intro)" on Nantucket in April 2003, and "Grind" was captured by Jared Slomoff in March 2004. Ray Paczkowski plays Fender Rhodes on "Undermind." "Secret Smile" carries an eleven-piece string section of violins, violas and cellos, arranged by Maria Schneider.

Anastasio and lyricist Tom Marshall wrote most of the songs. Scott Herman co-wrote "Scents and Subtle Sounds" and "Undermind," McConnell wrote "Army of One," Mike Gordon wrote "Access Me," and Jon Fishman wrote "Tomorrow's Song." "Maggie's Revenge," the album's only instrumental, and "Tiny" were both excerpted from the "Headphones Jam," a 47-minute improvisation recorded at the start of the sessions and later released in full through LivePhish.com.
