Original Nine-Track Sequence

Sony's 2015 disc issue at catalog number 88875043862: the album exactly as it ran in 1982, nine songs on one disc. It carries none of the later additions — no demos, no Vincent Price outtake from the 2001 Special Edition, none of the Thriller 25 remixes.

Quincy Jones produced with Jackson co-producing, recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles between April and November 1982.

Seven of the nine became singles. "Billie Jean" — above — held No. 1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks and "Beat It" followed it there. The album spent thirty-seven non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 between February 1983 and April 1984, won eight Grammys including Album of the Year, and stands at 34x platinum with the RIAA.
