The standard pressing of Swimming: two black discs, thirteen tracks laid out across four sides. Mac Miller's own store lists this configuration simply as the standard vinyl in black.

Swimming arrived on August 3, 2018 through REMember Music and Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded across a long list of rooms, among them ID Labs in Pittsburgh, Conway and Ameraycan in Los Angeles, Dubway in New York, Island Sound in Honolulu, Studio X in Seattle, Legacy in Dallas and Estudios del Sur in Santiago. Jon Brion carries production credits on seven of the thirteen tracks, with Dev Hynes, DJ Dahi, Cardo and ID Labs on others, and Flying Lotus adding production to "Conversation Pt. 1."

Dâm-Funk, Dev Hynes, Snoop Dogg, Syd, Thundercat and JID all appear on the album without credited features.

It entered the Billboard 200 at number three with 66,000 album-equivalent units, was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards, and was certified double platinum by the RIAA in February 2021, the first of Miller's albums to reach platinum. The singles were "Small Worlds," "Self Care" and "What's the Use?"

Swimming was the last album Miller released in his lifetime. He died on September 7, 2018, and the record returned to the chart at number six in the weeks that followed.
