Standard Black Double Vinyl

This is the black 2LP edition of Swimming, the standard vinyl. The thirteen tracks run across four sides. Sides A and B hold "Come Back to Earth" through "Ladders," and sides C and D run from "Small Worlds" to "So It Goes." The US vinyl street date was November 23, 2018, a little under four months after the album itself.

Swimming is Miller's fifth studio album, issued on August 3, 2018 by REMember Music and Warner Bros. Records. He started work on it in 2016 and announced it on July 12, 2018, with the release date attached. Miller produced much of it himself. Jon Brion holds main, co- or additional production credits on six tracks, and J. Cole produced "Hurt Feelings." Dev Hynes, DJ Dahi, ID Labs, Dam-Funk, Tae Beast, Cardo and Flying Lotus also contributed production, and Steve Lacy co-produced "Jet Fuel."

No guests are credited, but the album carries a number of uncredited voices. Thundercat, Syd, Dam-Funk and Snoop Dogg sing on "What's the Use?", and Dev Hynes and JID are on "Self Care." Four of the tracks are built on samples. "Self Care" draws on Erykah Badu's "On & On," "Hurt Feelings" on O'Donel Levy's "Nigerian Knight," "Jet Fuel" on Cutty Ranks' "The Stopper," and "2009" on Chante Moore's "Chante's Got a Man."

"Small Worlds" came first as a single on May 30, 2018, followed by "Self Care" with its video on July 13 and "What's the Use?" on July 23. The album opened at number three on the Billboard 200 with 66,000 album-equivalent units, 30,000 of them pure sales. That made it his fifth top-five album in a row. It also reached number four in Canada and number 37 in the UK, his first UK top 40, and it was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Miller died on September 7, 2018, just over a month after release. The album then climbed from number 71 back to number six, and "Self Care" reached number 33 on the Hot 100, his highest-charting song as a lead artist. On February 24, 2021, the RIAA certified Swimming platinum, the first of his albums to reach that mark.
