200 Gram Black Vinyl Steven Wilson & Robert Fripp Stereo Mix
The fortieth-anniversary stereo mix by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp, cut for the first time to 200 gram super-heavyweight vinyl. Jason Mitchell mastered it at Loud Mastering from the original studio masters; the lacquers carry the Loud cutting engineer's "Jasdaface" signature in the runout. Single sleeve with a lyric insert and a printed inner sleeve.
King Crimson recorded Beat at Odyssey Studios in London across March and April 1982 with Rhett Davies producing — the first Crimson album made with an outside producer. It is also the first to keep the same line-up as the album before it: Robert Fripp on guitar and keyboards, Adrian Belew on guitar and vocals, Tony Levin on bass and Chapman Stick, and Bill Bruford on drums and percussion.
The lyrics draw on Beat Generation writing, Kerouac in particular, which Fripp has said he suggested to Belew after seeing him reading it on tour. The album reached No. 39 in the United Kingdom and No. 52 on the Billboard 200.
It sits second in the quartet's three 1980s albums, eight months after Discipline and two years before Three of a Perfect Pair.
