Indie Exclusive 40th Anniversary Picture Disc LP

Sony's 40th anniversary edition of Turbo is, according to the label's notes, the first picture disc pressing of the album. Doug Johnson's cover art is printed on the playing surface of a single LP, which ships in a clear sleeve with a "40th Anniversary Special Edition Picture Disc" sticker. The label notes also say the audio comes from the 30th anniversary remaster prepared for Turbo 30 in 2017. In the US it is an indie-retail and direct-to-consumer exclusive.

Turbo is Judas Priest's tenth studio album, released by Columbia on April 7, 1986, with Tom Allom producing at Compass Point in Nassau and the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The band had first planned a double album, Twin Turbos, with one commercial half and one heavier half; the idea was dropped and the more commercial songs became Turbo, the first Priest record to use synthesizers. Johnson had also designed the covers of Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.

"Turbo Lover" was released as a single on the same day as the album, followed by "Locked In" in May and "Parental Guidance" in August, and the first two videos ran in heavy rotation on MTV. The album reached No. 17 on the Billboard 200, the band's highest US placing until Angel of Retribution in 2005, and No. 33 in the UK; the RIAA certified it gold on June 10, 1986, and later platinum. The band turned down a request to place "Reckless" on the Top Gun soundtrack, partly because it would have meant taking the song off this album. Rob Halford has called it the "love/hate Judas Priest album," and in 2008 he told Kerrang! that if ever there was a controversial Priest record in terms of what people might have expected, it was Turbo.
