Remixed & Remastered 180g Black Vinyl 2LP At 45 RPM

This is the 50th anniversary Remixed & Remastered edition of Sad Wings Of Destiny on vinyl: two 180-gram black LPs cut at 45 RPM from a half-speed master, issued by Exciter Records. The new mix was built from the original 1976 analog multitrack tapes, which were restored at British Grove Studios in London and transferred for the purpose. Tom Allom, the band's longtime producer, produced the remix, Luie Stylianou mixed it and Matt Colton mastered it, the same team behind the Remixed & Remastered edition of Rocka Rolla.

Spreading the album across four sides at 45 RPM gives each side two or three songs. The sequence follows the running order shown on the original back cover, opening with "Prelude," rather than the reversed sides of the 1976 record, which began with "Victim Of Changes." Side D closes with a newly remixed "Diamonds And Rust," the Joan Baez cover the band cut during the Sad Wings sessions at the urging of Gull's David Howells; it was left off the album and first surfaced on Gull's 1978 compilation The Best Of Judas Priest.

Sad Wings Of Destiny was Judas Priest's second album, released by Gull Records on March 26, 1976. It was recorded over two weeks in November and December 1975 at Rockfield Studios in Wales, produced by Jeffrey Calvert, Max West and the band, and mixed at Morgan Studios in London, with Chris Tsangarides as co-engineer. Rob Halford sang, K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton played guitar, with Tipton also on piano, organ and the synthesizer heard on "Prelude," Ian Hill played bass, and Alan Moore played drums on every track, the only Priest album on which he did. Patrick Woodroffe's painting "Fallen Angel" is on the cover. The album was certified gold in 1989, and Halford has called it his favorite of the band's records.
