180-Gram Vinyl Reissue

This 2017 reissue presents Sin After Sin as a single 180-gram LP under catalog number 88985390781, credited to Columbia and Legacy. It comes with a printed inner sleeve carrying the lyrics and an MP3 download voucher, and its eight tracks run four to a side.

Sin After Sin was Judas Priest's third studio album and their major-label debut, released by Columbia in the US on April 8, 1977 and by CBS in the UK later that month. Recording began in January 1977 at Ramport Studios in Battersea, the London studio owned by the Who, with mixing at Wessex Sound Studios and Mark Dodson engineering.

Former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover produced the album with the band. CBS had insisted on an experienced producer, and the band let Glover go after one session before bringing him back, which left about six days of studio time. Session drummer Simon Phillips played on the record but declined a permanent place because of his commitments to Jack Bruce, so Les Binks joined for the tour that followed.

Rob Halford sings, Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing play guitar, with Tipton also on piano and organ, and Ian Hill plays bass. Glover encouraged the band to record Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust," the video above, which became the first Judas Priest song to get radio play. The album reached No. 23 in the UK, the band's highest chart placing there at the time, and was later certified gold by the RIAA.
