This compact disc brings Pretty On The Inside back in its original eleven-song running order, in a jewel case with the original cover. The disc is printed pink with the band's hand-drawn logo, the booklet opens onto collage pages and handwritten lyrics, and the spine still carries the Caroline name the album first appeared under. There is no bonus material: the reissue runs about 38 minutes, exactly as the debut did.

Hole recorded the album in March 1991 at Music Box Studios in Hollywood, in a single week of four days tracking and three days mixing, with Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Don Fleming of Gumball at the controls. Caroline released it in the United States on September 17, 1991, and City Slang handled Europe. It reached number 59 on the UK Albums Chart and number seven on the UK Indie Albums chart, and Spin placed it among its twenty best albums of 1991.

Several songs borrow from other records. "Mrs. Jones" draws on Bauhaus's "Dark Entries," and "Starbelly" interpolates Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon." "Teenage Whore" came out first, as a City Slang single in September 1991 backed with "Drown Soda," a song that stayed off the album.
