3CD Softpak With Booklet

This three-disc set holds the Grateful Dead's complete concert of June 30, 1985 at Columbia, Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilion, a performance not released before. Disc one carries the first set. Discs two and three carry the second set, closing with the "U.S. Blues" encore. The discs come in a softpak with a booklet that prints Nicholas G. Meriwether's essay "A Different Kind of Symphony: The Dead at Merriweather Post Pavilion, June 30, 1985."

Dan Healy, the band's longtime sound engineer, recorded the show on Sony F1 digital tape, and those original tapes are the source here. Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser handled the mastering, David Lemieux, the band's archivist and legacy manager, produced the release, and Marcos Alvarado painted the cover.

The show comes from the band's 20th-anniversary tour of summer 1985. Rhino issued it as a standalone title on the same day as Summer Magic 1985, a 20-CD box of seven previously unreleased concerts from that summer: three nights at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, one each at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Hershey Park Stadium, and both Merriweather nights, June 30 and July 1.

The lineup that night was Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir on guitars and vocals, Phil Lesh on bass, Brent Mydland on keyboards and vocals, and Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart on drums.
