Jamaica pressing, Tuff Gong International ILPS 9241

This is a Jamaican pressing of Catch A Fire on clear vinyl, issued on Tuff Gong International and Island under catalog number ILPS 9241. Its side 2 runout carries two matrix numbers, ILPS 9241 A - 4 U and BML 2001 B - 4 U.

The object

One clear LP in the sleeve built around Esther Anderson's photograph of Marley smoking, the design that replaced the Zippo lighter case after the first 20,000 copies. The side 1 runout reads ILPS 9241 A - 4 U.

Context

Island released Catch A Fire on April 13, 1973, the band's first album for the label, recorded in 1972 at Dynamic Sound, Harry J's and Randy's in Kingston. Chris Blackwell remixed the tracks at Island's Basing Street studios and added overdubs, and this edition credits mastering to Sterling Sound.
