This is Together Through Life as reissued by Sony Legacy in 2026, on two 150-gram black LPs. Its ten songs run three, two, three and two across the four sides, the running order the official Bob Dylan store gives for this pressing.

The album was released on April 28, 2009, on Columbia. It started with a single request: the French director Olivier Dahan asked Dylan for a song for his road film My Own Love Song, and that song became "Life Is Hard." The sessions continued from there, in December 2008 at Groove Masters in Santa Monica, with Dylan producing under the pseudonym Jack Frost.

Dylan wrote nine of the ten songs with Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead lyricist; the two had last written together for Down in the Groove in 1988. Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers plays guitar and mandolin, and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos plays accordion and guitar, alongside Tony Garnier on bass, George Receli on drums and Donnie Herron on steel guitar, banjo, mandolin and trumpet.

"Beyond Here Lies Nothin'" went out first, as a free download on Dylan's website at the end of March 2009. It reached number ten on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart and was nominated for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo at the 52nd Grammy Awards.

Together Through Life entered the Billboard 200 at number one with 125,000 copies sold in its first week, and also reached number one in the United Kingdom, where it was certified gold. The front cover is a 1959 Bruce Davidson photograph of a couple in the back seat of a car; the back cover photograph is by Josef Koudelka.
