180-Gram Black Vinyl LP Reissue

Geffen Records and Universal Music Enterprises reissued Live In Cook County Jail as a single 180-gram black vinyl LP in September 2015, carrying all eight tracks of the original album across two sides.

King played the set on the afternoon of September 10, 1970, inside Cook County Jail in Chicago, to an audience of roughly 2,117 inmates. Winston Moore, the jail's warden, had invited him after seeing him perform at Mister Kelly's nightclub earlier that year, and Jerry Butler helped arrange the date. Bill Szymczyk produced the recording, and ABC Records released it in January 1971.

His band that day was Ron Levy on piano, John Browning on trumpet, Louis Hubert on tenor saxophone, Brooke Walker on alto saxophone, Wilbert Freeman on bass and Sonny Freeman on drums. The set runs through "Every Day I Have the Blues," "How Blue Can You Get?" and "Sweet Sixteen," and includes "The Thrill Is Gone" along with a medley of "3 O'Clock Blues" and "Darlin' You Know I Love You."

The album spent 31 weeks on Billboard's R&B albums chart and reached No. 1 there, the only King album to do so, and peaked at No. 25 on the Top LPs chart. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 499 on its 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the Blues Foundation inducted it into its Hall of Fame in 2002.

• Original shipping costs are non-refundable unless the error was ours

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.

Preorders may be cancelled for a full refund at any time before the order ships.

Once a preorder has shipped, it is treated as a completed order and is subject to the return, refund, and exchange policies outlined above.
