Black Vinyl LP With Fold-Out Poster

This single black LP is Geffen's 2016 vinyl reissue of Weezer's debut, issued in October of that year as part of a run of reissues covering the band's first six albums. The ten songs are split six to Side A and four to Side B, and the standard jacket holds a fold-out black-and-white poster. The back cover credits recording and mixing to Electric Lady Studios in New York, August to September 1993, and the remastering to Sterling Sound.

The album first came out on May 10, 1994, on DGC, produced by Ric Ocasek of the Cars. The band chose him for his work on "Just What I Needed," and he had them move their guitar pickups from the neck to the bridge for a brighter sound. Engineer Chris Shaw described the guiding idea as treating the guitars and bass as a single ten-string instrument played in unison. Guitarist Jason Cropper was asked to leave during the sessions and was replaced by Brian Bell, while Rivers Cuomo re-recorded Cropper's guitar parts himself. The cover photograph of the four members against a plain blue backdrop was taken by Peter Gowland.

Three singles followed: "Undone - The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So." Spike Jonze directed the videos for the first two, and "Buddy Holly" took four awards at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards, Breakthrough Video and Best Alternative Video among them. The record reached No. 16 on the Billboard 200, was certified five-times platinum in the US in 2024, and remains the band's best-selling album. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 294 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and in 2026 the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
