Standard Black Vinyl LP

This is the standard black vinyl edition of Van Weezer, the fifteenth studio album by Weezer, issued by Crush Music and Atlantic on May 7, 2021 as a single 12-inch LP played at 33 1/3 RPM. Retail listings for this barcode give Canada as the country of manufacture. The vinyl runs longer than the CD, cassette and digital editions, 35:02 against 30:49, because side B closes with an unlisted hidden track: a song dating to around 1992 that the band recorded in 2020.

The title is a nod to Van Halen, and the songs lean on heavy guitars and arena-sized hard rock. Suzy Shinn produced the record with the lineup of Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Patrick Wilson and Scott Shriner. It was announced in September 2019 alongside its first single, "The End of the Game," whose video starred the American band Cherry Glazerr.

The album was first set for May 15, 2020. When the pandemic postponed the stadium tour these songs had been written for, the release moved back a year, and the orchestral OK Human came out ahead of it in January 2021.

"Hero," issued in May 2020 with a video dedicated to frontline workers, became the fifth Weezer song to reach number one on the US Alternative Airplay chart. An edit of "Beginning of the End" appeared on the Bill & Ted Face the Music soundtrack that August, and "Blue Dream" was previewed on The Simpsons, in an episode that also had the band playing the show's theme. "I Need Some of That" followed in April 2021, and the video for "All the Good Ones" arrived on release day.
