Black Vinyl 12-Inch EP at 45 RPM

This is the standard black vinyl edition of SZNZ: Spring, a single 12-inch disc cut at 45 RPM and issued by Atlantic and Crush Music on February 3, 2023. It was the record's first appearance on vinyl. The songs had come out digitally on March 20, 2022, the day of the spring equinox, followed by a CD in April of that year.

The vinyl carries one song the digital and CD editions do not. "Across the Meadow" sits third on side two, just ahead of the closer, "Wild at Heart," and it stretches the running time to just under 24 minutes, against about 21 for the seven-song version.

SZNZ, pronounced "seasons," was planned as four records, each released at the start of a season in 2022, and Spring is the first of them. Rivers Cuomo first described the idea in a January 2021 interview and said he wanted this installment to feel "happy, chill, stress-free." The band tied its look for the record to a pre-Christian era, drawing on Celtic, Pagan and Wiccan influences, and "The Sound of Drums" includes passages from poems by Abigail Spinner McBride and Andras Corban-Arthen.

Ethan Gruska produced alongside Suzy Shinn and Jake Sinclair, both of whom had worked with the band on the White Album and OK Human. Sessions took place at United Recording and The Village in Los Angeles and 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica, and Bernie Grundman mastered the record. Weezer here are Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner and Patrick Wilson.

"A Little Bit of Love" was the lead single, released March 16, 2022. It reached No. 2 on Billboard's Canada Rock chart and No. 4 on US Rock & Alternative Airplay. Metacritic's aggregate across seven reviews stands at 63 out of 100.
