180 Gram Black Vinyl LP in a Gatefold Sleeve

This is Republic Records' single-LP edition of Weezer's ninth studio album, catalog number B0021621-01, pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and housed in a gatefold jacket. Six songs sit on side A. Side B carries four more before The Futurescope Trilogy, the three-part suite that closes the record and ends in "Return to Ithaka," with five guitar solos running at once. The album was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York, and the cover painting is by the visual artist Christopher McMahon.

Most of the album was recorded at The Village in Los Angeles in 2014 and mixed at South Beach Studios in Miami that July. Ric Ocasek of The Cars returned as producer for the third and last time, after the Blue Album in 1994 and the Green Album in 2001, and it remains the only Weezer album issued on Republic. More than 200 songs were considered and about 20 were tracked. The official press release grouped the final selection under three headings: "Belladonna," songs about Rivers Cuomo's relationships with women; "The Panopticon Artist," about the band and its fans; and "Patriarchia," about father figures.

Released on October 7, 2014, the album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and sold 34,000 copies in its first week, the band's fifth top-five album. It holds a Metacritic score of 77 across 33 reviews, and Rolling Stone ranked it 14th among the albums of 2014. "Back to the Shack," "Cleopatra" and "Da Vinci" were the singles. "Go Away," featuring Best Coast, followed as a promotional single with a video in July 2015; after a surge on social media in early 2026 it reached No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100, the band's first entry there since its 2018 cover of "Africa."
