Indie Exclusive Hot Pink Heart-Shaped Vinyl, 45 RPM

The record is cut in the shape of a heart. Ten cues from Vince Guaraldi's 1975 score sit on a hot pink die-cut 12-inch running at 45 RPM, and the package is built as a Valentine's card: a pink envelope-style sleeve addressed "from, Vince Guaraldi," with a postage stamp in the corner carrying the album's cover art. It is an Indie Exclusive, stocked through independent record stores.

The television special first aired in 1975. Charles Schulz wrote and created it, Phil Roman directed, and Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson produced. Guaraldi's score stayed commercially unreleased until January 2025, when Lee Mendelson Film Productions issued it complete for the first time as a 50th-anniversary extended edition. These ten cues are drawn from that program.

Guaraldi recorded the music with a trio, playing piano, electric piano, clarinet, harpsichord, electric guitar and ARP String Ensemble across the sessions, with Seward McCain on electric bass at Guaraldi's request and Vince Lateano on drums. John Scott Trotter supervised the music. The label's notes describe Guaraldi layering Fender Rhodes against acoustic piano, which is the texture most of these cues sit in.

Sean Mendelson and Jason Mendelson produced the release, Terry Carleton mixed it at Bones and Knives, and Vinson Hudson restored and mastered it from the original two-inch session tapes to a 192kHz/24-bit master. Guaraldi recorded the score in 1975 and died the following year, which places this music among the last of his work for Peanuts.

"Heartburn Waltz" opens the record and returns twice, as the fourth reprise on Side A and as the eighth to close Side B. "Freddie's Mood" is Chopin's Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 9 No. 2.
