Original Jazz Classics Series 180-Gram Black Vinyl LP

This is Craft Recordings' Original Jazz Classics Series edition of From All Sides, catalog number CR00962. Kevin Gray cut the lacquers from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio, keeping the chain all-analog, and the record is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI. It comes in a Stoughton tip-on jacket that reproduces the original Fantasy artwork, Ralph J. Gleason's back-cover liner notes included, with an Original Jazz Classics obi strip. Craft issued it on February 27, 2026, alongside Wes Montgomery's Full House in the same series.

Released by Fantasy in 1965, From All Sides is the second of three collaborations between the San Francisco pianist and the Brazilian guitarist, and Guaraldi's seventh studio album. The partnership took shape at Trois Couleurs, a San Francisco nightclub where Sete joined Guaraldi's trio for the last twelve weeks of a sixteen-week residency, and the album was recorded in late 1964. Two rhythm sections share the record: Fred Marshall on bass and Jerry Granelli on drums for five tracks, with Monty Budwig and Nick Martinez taking over on "Ginza Samba," "The Girl From Ipanema" and "Mambeando." Billboard named it a Jazz Special Merit pick on release.

Several of these tunes have lives on either side of the album. "Ginza Samba" reworks "Ginza," first recorded for Guaraldi's 1956 debut, Modern Music from San Francisco. "Menino Pequeno Da Bateria," a bossa nova treatment of "The Little Drummer Boy," returned later in 1965 as "My Little Drum" on A Charlie Brown Christmas. "Choro" borrows the opening theme of Mozart's Symphony No. 40, which Guaraldi adapted again as "Schroeder's Wolfgang" for the 1968 special He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown. Sete wrote "Mambeando" and co-wrote "Little Fishes" with Eva Konrad.
