1985 US issue, Mango MLPS 9788
Reggae Greats (Strictly For Lovers) is a twelve-track lovers rock compilation issued in the US on Mango in March 1985, catalog number MLPS 9788, and distributed by Island Trading Co. Trevor Wyatt compiled it, Tony Wright designed the cover and Jack Barron wrote the liner notes.
The object
The MLPS 9788 front cover prints a red lipstick kiss between the words Reggae Greats and Strictly For Lovers on a pale pink ground, and Jack Barron's notes run down the back beside the track listing. The labels carry the matrix numbers MLPS 9788-A and MLPS 9788-B.
Context
The twelve Strictly For Lovers recordings date from 1980 to 1984 and carry phonographic copyrights held by Taxi Productions, Inner Light, Dynamic Sounds, Hawkeye, Ensign Records and others. Sly & Robbie produced six of them, among them Dennis Brown's Have You Ever Been In Love and Ken Boothe's Show & Tell.
