180-Gram Black Vinyl 2LP in a Gatefold Jacket

This is Geffen's July 2021 reissue of the Almost Famous soundtrack on two 180-gram black LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket that adds previously unreleased photos to the packaging. It holds the original 17-track album in its original running order, cut across four sides.

The same year, UMe announced an expanded box set gathering all of the music featured in the film for the first time. This double LP stays with the album as it was first issued.

The soundtrack first appeared on DreamWorks on September 12, 2000, produced by Danny Bramson and Cameron Crowe. It won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, reached No. 43 on the Billboard 200 and is certified Gold by the RIAA.

Side A opens with Simon & Garfunkel's "America," first released on the duo's 1968 album Bookends. From there the running order takes in The Who, Todd Rundgren, Yes, The Beach Boys, Rod Stewart, The Seeds, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Cat Stevens, Clarence Carter and Thunderclap Newman. Two tracks are live recordings: The Allman Brothers Band's "One Way Out" and David Bowie's "I'm Waiting for the Man," taken from Live Santa Monica '72.

Nancy Wilson appears twice: "Lucky Trumble," an original score piece issued under her own name, and "Fever Dog," which she wrote for Stillwater, the film's fictional band. Stillwater's credited lineup names Billy Crudup, as Russell Hammond, on lead guitar and Jason Lee, as Jeff Bebe, on lead vocals, and Peter Frampton and Mike McCready are among the musicians credited on the album.
