Indie Exclusive Jade Vinyl 2LP

This is the indie-retail edition of the Define The Great Line twentieth-anniversary reissue, pressed on two LPs of jade vinyl. The anniversary run was issued in several colors, among them a brown 2LP and smaller exclusives such as a 300-copy "Bloom" pressing for Spotify and a 300-copy "Bleach" pressing sold as a UK exclusive.

Underoath began writing the album in late 2004, a few months after They're Only Chasing Safety, and signed with Tooth & Nail after months of interest from major labels. The band went into the studio in early 2006 with 19 songs, planning to cut them to 10 or 11. Producer Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage pushed them toward delay and effects pedals, and Tom Baker mastered the record at Precision Mastering in Los Angeles. The lyrics are credited to Spencer Chamberlain and Aaron Gillespie; keyboardist Christopher Dudley has said the title is about defining, for yourself, the line between who you want to be and who others want you to be.

"Sálmarnir" takes its title from the Icelandic word for "Psalms" and sets Psalm 50 in Russian, read by a friend of the band, and the album closes on the seven-minute "To Whom It May Concern." The videos for "Writing on the Walls" and "In Regards to Myself" were both shot in Sweden with Popcore Films.

Released on June 20, 2006, it was the highest-charting Christian release since LeAnn Rimes in 1997 and the biggest first week in Tooth & Nail's history, and it charted at No. 28 in Australia and No. 37 in New Zealand. Loudwire placed it at No. 24 on its 2017 list of the 25 greatest metalcore albums, and in 2023 Revolver ranked it first among Underoath's records.
