This edition of No Sleep Til L.A. is a zoetrope picture disc, printed with concentric rings of sequential images around a center photograph of the band, the design that animates as the record turns. UMe issues it as a limited edition in a clear vinyl sleeve with a backer card.

The twelve songs follow Tom Petty from Mudcrutch's first studio session, at Criteria Studios in Miami in 1971, through sessions in Tulsa and on to Los Angeles, where the Heartbreakers took shape. Across those first eight years of Petty's recording life, the label counts seven previously unreleased recordings and five rare ones, every track newly mixed from the original multitrack tapes by Ryan Ulyate.

Side A opens with "Parade of Loons," a Heartbreakers recording from 1978 that had never been heard before this collection; it was issued ahead of the album with a video directed by Peter Sluszka and starring Iain Armitage. Three of the five rarities, "I Can't Fight It," "Depot Street" and "Since You Said You Love Me," first surfaced on Playback, MCA's 1995 box set, and all five appear here in 2026 mixes.
