Tina Turner - Break Every Rule (Red Vinyl)

Limited Edition Red Vinyl LP for the 40th Anniversary

This limited edition red vinyl LP marks the 40th anniversary of Break Every Rule, Tina Turner's sixth solo album, first released on September 8, 1986. The official Tina Turner store announced it for the anniversary. The audio is the 2022 remaster, and retail listings give the disc weight as 140 grams.

Break Every Rule followed Private Dancer, her 1984 comeback album, and reached No. 2 on the UK albums chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200. It went to No. 1 in Germany, where it held the top spot for 12 weeks, and in Switzerland and Finland, and the RIAA certified it platinum.

The first side belongs to Terry Britten and Graham Lyle. Britten produced all six songs on it, and five are Britten and Lyle compositions; the sixth, "Girls," was co-written by David Bowie. Phil Collins plays drums on "Typical Male" and "Girls," and Steve Winwood takes the synthesizer solo on "Afterglow."

The second side brings in other producers. Bryan Adams and Bob Clearmountain produced "Back Where You Started," written by Adams and Jim Vallance, which won the 1987 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Rupert Hine produced the title track and "I'll Be Thunder," both written with Jeannette Obstoj. Mark Knopfler produced and played guitar on his own "Overnight Sensation" and on Paul Brady's "Paradise Is Here," which features Branford Marsalis on soprano saxophone.

"Typical Male" reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and "What You Get Is What You See" No. 13, while "Afterglow" went to No. 2 on the US dance chart. The world tour that followed included a show in Rio de Janeiro for an audience of 180,000.
