This Record Store Day 2025 LP is the first official reissue of Voyager 1, the live record the band issued in very limited quantity in 1993, when they were still called Verve. It was mastered from the original analog sources, with lacquers cut by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios, and pressed on black vinyl under catalog number 7536413.
The six songs were recorded in concert in London and New York in 1992, ahead of the debut album A Storm In Heaven. Virgin made the original pressing to introduce the band to American listeners through Vernon Yard Recordings, its then-new US label, and styled it as a band-endorsed pseudo-bootleg. It was released only in the United States.
The lineup is Richard Ashcroft on vocals, Nick McCabe on guitar, Simon Jones on bass and Peter Salisbury on drums. The set includes live versions of "She's A Superstar" and "Gravity Grave," both UK indie No. 1 singles for the band, and "South Pacific," which had no studio release until the 2015 A Storm In Heaven box set. Legal action from the US jazz label of the same name later led the band to become The Verve.
