Rhino Rocktober Limited Edition Red & Black Split Vinyl LP

This pressing of Fun House comes from Rhino's 2022 Rocktober campaign, which issued it on October 14, 2022 alongside a whiskey-colored edition of the Stooges' 1969 debut. The single LP is split down the middle, one half opaque red and the other black, and it ships in a gatefold jacket with a vintage-style Elektra inner sleeve on heavy paper. The jacket carries the original Elektra catalog number, RCD1 74071, and the back panel credits Rhino Entertainment as manufacturer and marketer.

The album was recorded at Elektra Sound Recorders in Los Angeles between May 11 and 25, 1970, with former Kingsmen keyboardist Don Gallucci producing. After a first day of conventional setup, the band and Gallucci stripped the room of its baffles and soundproofing and arranged themselves as they played on stage, with Iggy Pop singing into a handheld microphone. Ron Asheton recalled cutting about a track a day, in album order, and never needing more than four takes of anything.

The back cover lists Iggy Pop on vocals, Ron Asheton on guitar, Dave Alexander on bass and Scott Asheton on drums, with Steven Mackay on tenor saxophone. Brian Ross-Myring engineered, Ed Caraeff took the photographs and Robert L. Heimall directed the art. The band wanted "Loose" as the opener; Elektra put "Down on the Street" first instead.

Elektra released Fun House on July 7, 1970, and it did not chart on the Billboard 200 or in the UK. Pitchfork's Joe Tangari later counted it, with the debut, among the most important precursors to punk rock, and Rolling Stone placed it at number 191 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2003 before moving it to number 94 in the 2020 edition.
