Remastered 180 Gram Black Vinyl 2LP in Gatefold Sleeve

This is Sire's US double-LP edition of Louder Than Bombs, catalog number R1 529382, with a June 7, 2016 street date. Its 24 tracks are spread six to a side across two 180 gram black discs on yellow Sire labels, housed in a gatefold sleeve. The audio is the 2011 remastering of the band's catalog, and the jacket notes that the record is released under license from Rough Trade Records, England.

Sire first issued the collection as a double album in 1987. Turntable Lab's notes say it was first meant for the American market, as a companion to the UK-only compilation The World Won't Listen. It also gathers much of Hatful of Hollow, which had not yet been released in the US. The rest is non-album singles, B-sides, and two songs cut for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show, "Is It Really So Strange?" and "Sweet And Tender Hooligan." The recordings date from April 1983 to November 1986.

Louder Than Bombs reached No. 62 on the Billboard 200 and No. 38 in the UK after Rough Trade issued it there in May 1987, and it was certified Gold by the RIAA. Rolling Stone placed it at No. 365 on its 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Craig Gannon, briefly the band's fifth member, plays additional guitar on "Half A Person," "London," "Panic," "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" and "Ask." Kirsty MacColl adds vocals to "Ask," and Stephen Street produced "Half A Person" and "London." The title comes from Elizabeth Smart's By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept. The cover photograph, reprinted from the Saturday Evening Post, shows the playwright Shelagh Delaney.
