1981 US pressing, EMI America SOO-17062, pressed at Jacksonville
This is the US EMI America issue of Freeze-Frame, catalogue SOO-17062, pressed by Capitol Records at its plant in Jacksonville, Illinois. The tell is the 0 stamped at the end of both runouts; copies of the same catalogue number pressed at Capitol's Winchester plant are documented with an etched rifle symbol in that place instead.
The object
A single LP on EMI America. The runouts open SOO-1-17062 and SOO-2-17062 and both carry MCR, the mark of Master Cutting Room in New York, where the lacquers were cut. On the Jacksonville issue the matrix is etched and only the plant's 0 is stamped.
The US edition came with a printed inner sleeve carrying the lyrics and credits. Bill Burks is credited with the design, Georganne Deen with the cover illustration and Thomas Weschler with the photography.
Context
Freeze-Frame was released in the US in October 1981, and this Jacksonville issue belongs to that original 1981 EMI America run rather than to a later reissue. Seth Justman produced and arranged the record and David Thoener engineered it, with recording at Long View Farm in Massachusetts and mixing at The Mix Room in New York.
The album
The full account of Freeze-Frame as a work lives on its album page; what is set out here is particular to this Jacksonville copy of SOO-17062.
