This is the Pinckneyville pressing of Phantoms: both sides carry the stamped ◈-P-◈ mark of MCA's Pinckneyville plant, where the parallel Gloversville pressing of MCA-5507 is stamped ▣-G-▣ instead. The lacquers were cut at Sterling Sound, and STERLING is stamped into the runout on both sides.

The object

A single LP. The labels carry a sand-patterned design with the band name and PHANTOMS title, and the label matrix numbers MCA4057 for side one and MCA4058 for side two. In the runouts, side one reads MCA 4057-SS6, and both sides carry the stamped ◈-P-◈ and STERLING alongside a small etched baseball-shaped mark credited to cutting engineer Greg Calbi.

Context

MCA-5507 is the original US catalog number for Phantoms, and this copy was pressed in 1984, the year the album came out. The album was recorded and mixed at Farmyard Studios by Stephen W. Tayler, with Rupert Hine producing.
