Rhino Reserve 180-Gram Black Vinyl LP

This pressing of Greatest Hits belongs to Rhino Reserve, Rhino's series of high-quality vinyl reissues, under catalog number RES1 515. Matthew Lutthans cut the lacquers at The Mastering Lab from the original analog master tapes, and the record is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in California. A Rhino Reserve strip on the front of the jacket carries the series crest, the 180-gram mark and the words "cut from analog tape," and the disc wears matching Rhino Reserve labels. Rhino released it on October 17, 2025, in its Rocktober 2025 slate, during the band's 60th-anniversary year.

Elektra first issued Greatest Hits in 1980 as 5E-515. Arriving a year after Apocalypse Now, it found the band a new audience that had not grown up with the Doors, and it went on to rank among the best-selling compilations ever released. Rhino's own sticker copy for this edition calls it "the record that launched a million new Doors fans."

All ten tracks come from the six studio albums released during Jim Morrison's lifetime. "Light My Fire" and "Break On Through" are from The Doors (1967), "People Are Strange" and "Love Me Two Times" from Strange Days (1967), and "Hello, I Love You" and "Not to Touch the Earth" from Waiting for the Sun (1968). "Touch Me" is from The Soft Parade (1969), "Roadhouse Blues" from Morrison Hotel (1970), and "Riders on the Storm" and "L.A. Woman" from L.A. Woman (1971). "Hello, I Love You" went to number one in the US and Canada in 1968. The lineup throughout is Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, with production by Paul A. Rothchild and Bruce Botnick.
