Remastered 180 Gram Black Vinyl LP, Import

This is Fiction Records' European single-LP reissue of The Head on the Door, remastered and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. Fiction first issued it under this barcode in 2008 and has repressed it several times since. The printed inner sleeve carries the lyrics and credits.

The album was the Cure's sixth, released by Fiction on August 30, 1985 in the UK and September 4 in the US. It was the first Cure record on which Robert Smith wrote every song, and the first with drummer Boris Williams. Simon Gallup came back on bass after several years away, Porl Thompson joined as a full member on guitar and keyboards, and Lol Tolhurst played keyboards. Smith produced it with David M. Allen, and Ron Howe of Fools Dance plays the saxophone solo on "A Night Like This."

Smith wanted a record of many moods and pointed to Siouxsie and the Banshees' Kaleidoscope as a model. "Kyoto Song" turns on an Eastern-sounding hook, "The Blood" is played in a flamenco style, and the piano figure in "Six Different Ways" first surfaced during his time in the Banshees, on "Swimming Horses." The title is a line from the chorus of "Close to Me."

"In Between Days" reached No. 15 on the UK Singles Chart ahead of the album, and "Close to Me" followed, the first time a Cure album produced more than one single. The album entered the UK chart at No. 7, their best showing to that point, made the US top 75, and is certified gold in the US, the UK and France. Melody Maker named it the best album of 1985.
